Tony Long is a Senior Expert at the Global Governance Institute at the Free University of Brussels. He joined the Institute in 2015 after more than 35 years with various environmental non-governmental organizations, first in the UK and later in Europe. He founded the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) European Policy Office in Brussels in the late 1980s and headed it for more than 25 years. Prior to working in the NGO sector, Tony was a local authority planning official in north-west England. He has been awarded various fellowships including by the Commonwealth Fund of New York (Harkness Fellowship), the American Political Science Association (Congressional Fellowship), the German Marshall Fund and the 21st Century Trust. He was visiting professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, for six years teaching courses on environmental politics.
