Relatively simple changes to fish farming technology and management practices could help the global transition to increasingly intensive forms of aquaculture to become more sustainable, according to new research.

A new understanding between WorldFish and FAO will combat hunger and improve livelihoods by promoting the impact of fisheries and aquaculture research.
A recent paper stating that farmed shrimp has a ‘jumbo’ carbon footprint is an overestimate, say WorldFish and partner researchers, largely because it fails to account for the greatly reduced competition between shrimp farms and mangrove forests as well as an increased recognition of the value of mangroves.
